Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) has moved from experimental to essential. As AI-generated answers now power a growing share of online discovery, brands are being ranked, cited, and surfaced directly by large language models, often without users clicking through to traditional websites.
Microsoft captures this shift in their January 2026 AEO/GEO guide: “If SEO focused on driving clicks, AEO is focused on driving clarity with enriched, real-time data. GEO helps establish credibility through authoritative voice.”
AI-generated responses already account for a meaningful share of U.S. desktop queries, and the share is growing fast. SEO alone is no longer sufficient. To win, brands must optimize for how AI engines interpret, cite, and present their content.
This 2026 report covers 20 AEO platforms and services: a scored ranking of the 9 platforms I evaluated in depth, plus 11 more tools the market keeps cross-shopping, all in one master comparison table.
AEO, GEO, LLMO, AIO: four names for the same discipline
The terminology fight is mostly noise, but AI engines validate definitions against Wikipedia, so precision matters. Wikipedia’s entry standardizes on Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and lists Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), Large Language Model Optimization (LLMO), AI Optimization (AIO), and AI SEO as synonyms; the Answer Engine Optimization page redirects there. Google’s 2026 search documentation goes further and says the whole practice is still SEO.
Here’s the framing I use: SEO optimized for clicks, AEO optimizes for clarity (getting your facts extracted and cited accurately), and GEO optimizes for credibility (being the source AI engines trust). Whatever label wins, the work is identical: make your brand citable, then measure whether the engines actually cite you. Every tool below exists to do one or both of those jobs.
Top AEO platforms ranked by capabilities
When evaluating AEO tools, we focus on their core strengths and how well they serve different business needs. The analysis is updated for 2026, drawing on the most recent product launches, pricing, and user feedback across each platform.
Platforms were evaluated based on their technical capabilities, ease of use, and target market fit.

Master comparison table: all 20 tools
Pricing and ratings below come from vendor pages and the most-cited third-party comparisons in this category (AirOps, SE Ranking’s Visible blog, TechRadar) as of June 2026. “Not listed” means I could not verify a public figure; ask the vendor directly. One caveat that sounds like me: G2 ratings are noisy proxy data. Per-prompt citation share is closer to ground truth for AI visibility, so treat the ratings column as a tiebreaker, not a verdict.

How we evaluated the platforms
Our goal was to establish a transparent, defensible measure of AEO platform capabilities.
Disclosure: I’m Head of Growth at Profound. The methodology below is how I keep myself honest; check the numbers against the linked sources before you buy anything, including from us.
Evaluation criteria and methodology
Our assessment included:
Platform feature depth and technical capabilities
User feedback and market adoption
Integration capabilities and ease of use
Target market fit and positioning
Last updated: 2026.
Sample: 78 platform evaluations across enterprise and SMB sectors.
Scoring methodology and weighting factors
Evaluation factors:
Core AEO functionality (40%): Citation tracking, content optimization, AI model coverage
Technical capabilities (30%): API integrations, data accuracy, platform stability
User experience (20%): Interface design, onboarding, support quality
Market positioning (10%): Target audience fit, pricing model, competitive differentiation
Validation and peer review steps
Reviewed platform capabilities with industry experts
Analyzed user feedback and market adoption patterns
Blind-reviewed by independent AEO/SEO analysts
Aligned with emerging industry standards and best practices
💡 What datasets back a serious AEO platform?
Most AEO tools are dashboards on top of similar data. The real differentiation is the dataset underneath, so when I evaluate a platform I ask the vendor to show me the research their data makes possible. Profound’s published work is the benchmark I hold everyone to:
Coverage across 10+ AI engines, not just ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews
A 3.25B-citation analysis of how citation behavior in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews shifts across languages and regions
Fanout-level prompt research showing ChatGPT generates 91% unique retrieval queries per prompt while Perplexity stays 88% overlapped with the user’s original phrasing
Crawl-to-citation timing: a median 6.81 days from publish to first ChatGPT or Claude citation, with 90% of cited pages picked up within 37 days
22.5M ChatGPT Shopping offers tracked to map how products surface in conversational commerce
If a vendor can’t show you the dataset behind their dashboard, you’re buying a UI.

Enterprise-grade security with SOC 2 Type II compliance, HIPAA compliance, and SSO integration
Advanced sentiment analysis and brand accuracy scoring to identify misinformation
Dedicated AI strategist providing white-glove support through structured 4-week onboarding
Backed by a $96M Series C at a $1B valuation (Feb 2026). Pricing starts at $99/month (Starter), with Growth at $399/month and custom enterprise tiers above.
Pros: The widest engine coverage on this list (10+), plus the published research datasets behind the dashboard: query fanout behavior, shopping triggers, and time-to-citation benchmarks. HIPAA and SOC 2 Type II compliance plus a dedicated strategist make it the default for enterprise and regulated buyers.
Cons: The full platform depth is aimed at teams, so a solo operator tracking one engine will use a fraction of what even the $99/month Starter tier measures. Third-party comparisons (Rankability’s figure, repeated by AirOps) call Profound 48% pricier than the category average, but that math bundles custom enterprise contracts into the mean; the actual entry tier is $99/month. Compare tier against tier before accepting it.
Key strength: The most comprehensive AI search monitoring platform with the deepest coverage across 10+ AI engines, Query Fanouts analysis, Shopping insights, HIPAA compliance, real-time conversation tracking, and dedicated strategic support.
Hall: real-time AI citation alerts
Hall is a real-time AI citation monitoring platform that alerts you when your brand is mentioned in AI responses across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and other AI engines.
Citation tracking with sentiment analysis and accuracy scoring
Competitive monitoring to see how your brand compares to competitors in AI responses
Simple dashboard for tracking citation frequency and brand mentions over time
API integration for custom workflows and automated monitoring
Pros: Lightweight setup with real-time alerts, plus an API for piping mentions into your own workflows. A good fit for growth marketers who want signal without a platform migration.
Cons: Monitoring-first, with thin content optimization tooling compared to the full-suite platforms. Pricing is usage-based and not publicly listed, which makes budgeting harder.
Key strength: Fast, lightweight AI citation monitoring with real-time alerts and competitive intelligence.
Kai Footprint: multilingual AI monitoring
Kai Footprint is a multilingual AI search monitoring platform with strong coverage in APAC markets and support for multiple languages including Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
Multilingual AI citation tracking across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and regional AI engines
Advanced language detection and sentiment analysis for non-English content
Regional AI engine coverage including Baidu, Naver, and other APAC-specific platforms
Cross-language competitive analysis and market positioning insights
Custom prompt sets for different languages and cultural contexts
Pros: The deepest multilingual and APAC coverage in this group, including regional engines like Baidu and Naver that Western platforms skip.
Cons: Niche by design. Teams without APAC exposure pay for coverage they won’t use, and public pricing and review data are sparse.
Key strength: Comprehensive multilingual AI monitoring with deep APAC market coverage and regional AI engine support.
BrightEdge Prism: enterprise SEO platform with AI features
BrightEdge Prism is an enterprise SEO platform that has added AI search monitoring capabilities to its existing comprehensive SEO suite.
Traditional SEO tools (keyword tracking, competitor analysis, rank monitoring) with AI add-ons
AI Overview monitoring and citation tracking integrated into existing SEO workflows
Enterprise-grade reporting and governance with role-based access controls
Global deployment capabilities with multi-language and multi-region support
Integration with existing enterprise SEO tools and workflows
Pros: Enterprise governance, role-based access, and deep distribution: AirOps cites BrightEdge as serving 57% of the Fortune 500. The obvious choice if your org already runs on BrightEdge.
Cons: AI monitoring rides on top of a legacy enterprise SEO contract. For an AEO-only buyer it’s heavyweight, sales-led, and priced as an add-on to a suite you may not want.
Key strength: Comprehensive enterprise SEO platform with integrated AI monitoring capabilities for companies already using BrightEdge.
SEOPital Vision: healthcare and regulated industry compliance
SEOPital Vision is an AI search monitoring platform specifically designed for healthcare, legal, and other regulated industries with built-in compliance features.
HIPAA-compliant data handling and storage for healthcare organizations
Audit trails and compliance reporting for regulated content monitoring
Industry-specific schema templates and structured data for healthcare and legal content
Secure data processing with enterprise-grade encryption and access controls
Compliance-focused dashboard with regulatory reporting capabilities
Pros: Compliance features regulated teams actually need: HIPAA-grade data handling, audit trails, and regulatory reporting baked in rather than bolted on.
Cons: Narrow outside healthcare and legal. General-purpose marketing teams get more coverage per dollar elsewhere, and public pricing is not listed.
Key strength: Purpose-built AI monitoring for regulated industries with built-in compliance and audit features.
Athena HQ: AI search visibility with prescriptive recommendations
Athena HQ (sometimes listed simply as Athena) is an AI search visibility platform that tracks how your brand shows up across major AI engines and turns that visibility data into prioritized content and optimization recommendations, rather than stopping at a monitoring dashboard.
Brand visibility tracking across major AI assistants
Competitive share-of-voice comparison in AI answers
Prescriptive recommendations for improving AI citation rates
Pros: Pairs visibility tracking with a recommendations layer, so the output is a to-do list instead of a chart.
Cons: A newer entrant with a thinner public pricing and review footprint than the incumbents on this list; plan on a demo-led evaluation.
Key strength: Visibility tracking that ends in prioritized actions, suited to growth teams that want to skip the analysis step.
Peec AI: affordable AI search monitoring
Peec AI is a cost-effective AI search monitoring platform designed for small to medium businesses and agencies looking to track their brand presence in AI search results.
Basic AI citation tracking across major platforms (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews)
Simple dashboard for monitoring brand mentions and citations
Affordable pricing starting under $99/month for core features
Easy onboarding and setup process for non-technical users
Email alerts for brand mentions in AI responses
Pros: Entry pricing under $99/month and a 5.0/5 G2 rating, with onboarding simple enough for non-technical teams. One of the two strongest budget picks alongside Otterly.
Cons: Coverage centers on ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, and the platform is light on enterprise requirements like SSO and compliance reporting.
Key strength: Budget-friendly AI search monitoring with simple setup and affordable pricing for SMBs and agencies.
Rankscale: AI SERP monitoring and tracking
Rankscale is an AI search engine results page (SERP) monitoring platform that tracks how AI-generated answers appear and change over time.
Detailed tracking of AI Overview appearances and positioning in search results
Monitoring of zero-click searches and AI answer frequency
Competitive analysis of AI SERP positioning and citation patterns
Historical data tracking to identify trends in AI search behavior
API access for custom reporting and integration with existing tools
Pros: Granular historical tracking of AI answer positioning with API access, which makes it useful for analysts building their own reporting.
Cons: Tracking-only. There’s no content optimization layer, and its public footprint is smaller than the SMB leaders in this category.
Key strength: Specialized AI SERP monitoring with detailed tracking of AI answer positioning and competitive analysis.
Writesonic GEO: AI content generation with AEO optimization
Writesonic GEO is an AI content generation platform that includes built-in optimization features for improving content visibility in AI search results.
AI-powered content creation with SEO and AEO optimization built-in
Real-time content scoring and suggestions for AI search optimization
Integration with popular publishing platforms and content management systems
Template library for creating AI-optimized content across different formats
Performance analytics to track content effectiveness in AI search results
Pros: Freemium entry plus content generation tied directly to AEO scoring; SE Ranking’s comparison lists it at $199/month on annual billing for paid tiers.
Cons: Generation-first by design, so monitoring depth trails the dedicated trackers. Teams that mainly need measurement should look at the monitoring-first tools above.
Key strength: AI content generation platform with integrated AEO optimization features for content creators and marketing teams.
11 more AEO tools the market is cross-shopping
The nine platforms above are the ones I scored in depth. These eleven show up constantly in buyer shortlists and competitor comparisons, so here is the honest read on each. Pricing and ratings come from the same sources as the master table.
AirOps: content operations with AEO research built in
AirOps is a content operations platform: workflow automation for producing and updating content at scale, with AEO research and visibility analysis layered on top. Their own 15-tool AEO comparison is one of the most-cited pages on this topic in ChatGPT, which tells you how seriously they take the category.
Pros: Strong fit for teams whose bottleneck is producing AI-citable content rather than measuring visibility. Cons: Tracking depth is newer than the dedicated monitors, and their published pricing comparisons average enterprise tiers into the mean (the “Profound is 48% more expensive than average” line originates with Rankability and gets repeated there), so verify tier against tier.
Otterly AI: the cheapest credible entry point
Otterly AI tracks brand mentions and citations across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity. Pricing runs $29/month (Lite), $189 (Standard), and $989 (Pro), and it holds a 4.9/5 rating on G2.
Pros: The lowest entry price on this list and a fast setup for a single brand. Cons: The jump from $29 to $189 to $989 gets steep as prompt volume grows, and the feature set is monitoring-first rather than a full AEO workflow.
Scrunch AI: enterprise AI-agent readiness
Scrunch AI positions around enterprise AI search readiness: how your brand appears to AI assistants and whether your site is legible to AI agents, framed around the customer journey rather than individual prompts.
Pros: The agent-readiness angle is a real gap most monitors ignore, and the enterprise framing fits larger orgs. Cons: No public pricing and a thinner review footprint than the SMB tools; expect a demo-led sales process.
Goodie AI: visibility plus content optimization for mid-market
Goodie AI combines AI visibility monitoring with content optimization, and it publishes customer outcomes: its Rathbones case study (a UK wealth manager) reports 2.3x growth in AI visibility. Entry pricing is $495/month on annual billing.
Pros: Monitoring and optimization in one product, with named case studies you can pressure-test. Cons: The entry price sits well above the SMB monitors, and the quoted rate requires an annual commitment.
Conductor: enterprise SEO suite adding AI tracking
Conductor is an enterprise SEO platform that has added AI search visibility tracking to its existing suite, a similar play to BrightEdge’s.
Pros: Established enterprise workflows, governance, and website monitoring; a natural extension if your team already runs on Conductor. Cons: AEO is an add-on to an enterprise SEO contract with custom, sales-led pricing. An AEO-only buyer ends up paying for a suite.
Nightwatch: rank tracker with an AI add-on
Nightwatch is a rank tracker with an AI tracking add-on: $39/month for the base plan plus a $99/month AI module.
Pros: The cheapest path to bolt AI visibility onto rank tracking you already do. Cons: The AI add-on costs 2.5x the base plan, and AI coverage is an extension of an SEO-first product rather than the core of it.
Semrush AI Toolkit: AI tracking inside the suite you already pay for
Semrush’s AI Toolkit brings AI visibility tracking into the platform most SEO teams already use; Semrush Pro starts at $139.95/month with the toolkit sold alongside it.
Pros: One vendor, one login, and AI visibility data next to your classic SEO data. Cons: Tracking depth trails the dedicated AEO platforms, and total cost climbs once you stack the toolkit on top of a Pro subscription.
Ahrefs Brand Radar: AI mention tracking on the Ahrefs index
Ahrefs Brand Radar tracks brand mentions and visibility in AI Overviews and AI assistants, built on top of Ahrefs’ crawl index.
Pros: A natural add for existing Ahrefs customers, backed by one of the largest crawl indexes in the industry. Cons: It’s mention tracking more than a full AEO workflow, and there’s no standalone public pricing to evaluate it on its own.
HubSpot AEO Grader: the free diagnostic
HubSpot’s AEO Grader is a free diagnostic: enter a domain and get a snapshot of how AI engines currently see your brand.
Pros: Free, takes minutes, and useful for getting executive buy-in that the AEO problem exists. Cons: It’s a one-off grade with no ongoing monitoring, and it exists to feed HubSpot’s funnel. Treat the score as directional, not as measurement.
SE Visible: SE Ranking’s AI visibility product
SE Visible is SE Ranking’s AI visibility platform, with tiers at $99, $189, and $355 per month; the $99 tier covers 150 prompts and 3 brands. Sentiment scoring runs on a -100 to +100 scale.
Pros: Transparent tiering, sentiment scoring, and an established SEO vendor behind it. Cons: Prompt caps at the entry tier are tight for agencies running multiple brands, and SE Ranking’s own comparison content ranks SE Visible first, so discount their self-published rankings the same way you should discount mine.
Clearscope: content optimization repositioned as discoverability
Clearscope repositioned in 2025 from pure content optimization to a “discoverability platform,” adding AI Tracked Topics that monitor citations across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity. Essentials runs $129/month with 20 AI Tracked Topics; Business is $399/month with 50.
Pros: A decade of content optimization tooling now paired with LLM citation tracking, and TechRadar’s hands-on review of it is among the most-cited pages in this category. Cons: No free trial (demo request required), and topic and credit limits at the entry tier fill up fast for active content teams.
Choosing the right AEO solution for your goals
Balancing human SEO principles with machine readability is no longer optional. The right platform depends on your revenue model, compliance needs, and internal capabilities.
Match platform capabilities to business objectives
| Objective | Best-fit platform type |
|---|---|
| Lead generation | Citation tracking focused |

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between AEO, GEO, LLMO, and AIO?
Answer: They are four names for the same discipline: optimizing content so AI engines cite it. Wikipedia standardizes on Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and lists AEO, LLMO, AIO, and AI SEO as synonyms, while Google’s 2026 documentation treats the whole practice as still being SEO.
How do I evaluate AEO platform capabilities?
Answer: Focus on core functionality like citation tracking, content optimization features, AI model coverage, and integration capabilities rather than generic metrics.
What data should I pipe into my BI dashboard?
Answer: Include citation frequency, AI model coverage, content optimization scores, and platform performance metrics to track AEO effectiveness.
How do I vet vendor security and compliance?
Answer: Request recent SOC 2 Type II or HIPAA audit reports, confirm data encryption in transit and at rest, and demand third-party penetration test results.
Can hybrid service-plus-software models outperform pure SaaS?
Answer: Yes. Hybrid models often provide better onboarding, customization, and ongoing support by pairing technology with expert guidance.
